Meet Dorothy L. Hernandez

Dorothy L. Hernandez was born and raised across the sun-baked hills of southern Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. As a girl, she would wander off into the wild country, picking flowers and letting her imagination run every bit as free as the landscape around her. That same sense of wonder never left her; it simply grew up alongside her, ready to be shared.

“They are the tender young buds that blossom in the night… and if I have touched but one little heart, then I will have made life worthwhile.”

Children have always been Dorothy’s first love, and it shows in the way she writes with warmth, curiosity, and a gentle sense of humor that speaks to readers young and old alike. That love of storytelling, and of the children who listen to it, is what led her to write Alpha and Omega, a science fantasy that carries the same spark she felt as a child chasing wildflowers through the hills.

Alpha and Omega brings together two of Dorothy’s favorite things: the vast wonder of outer space and the gentle, prehistoric charm of dinosaurs. Working closely with illustrator Mary Redman, she created a story where a distant, war-ravaged planet and a small farming town on Earth are drawn together by two extraordinary eggs and the family, friendship, and courage that follow.

Dorothy is currently at work on the next chapter of the journey, Alpha & Omega II, continuing the story readers have taken to heart.
